Track Name: These Things Meant Nothing To You At All
dear Sir or Madam,
think of me as a street musician with his guitar case open--- the music is free for the moment but, tips are kindly appreciated ---perhaps I could buy a drink or something- -whatwehave here is the latest collection of songs that i've put together for the amusement of my friends---for some several years i've been putting together collections of songs or noise for the amusement or bemusement of 4 or 6 freinds or so--- these 5 or 6 or 7 or so freinds are musicians who i've played in bands with ( see cruel, cruel moon or maybe the bad crabs ) or that i like what they do or like that---so there's a looseness to it knowing that my 4 or 3 freinds won't be too judgmental about a stumbling performance or a dodgy sound--- in fact they might enjoy it more for the having some fun qualities...i'm playing around making something and having fun..................................................and further more.....
Track Name: Crocodile Smile
it's a little like doing sketches befor a painting---this is sort of a sketch for an album or cd that's never going to get made---which isn't entirely true--- it's pretty finished for what it is to--- and if this is CROCODILE SMILE there's a cool version by CRUEL, CRUEL MOON at their websight--- it has a differant flavour so, anyway, so some of these recordings are bare bones demos of songs and some are more elaborite and finished on ther own terms--- some are just for laughs or to play the fool--- some are more serious --- even deadly serious booahahahahahaa......
Track Name: The Buddha's Lament
----- so done with the idea that they'ld be heard by a small specific audience--- my friends ( who shall remain nameless--- well some of them) ---these tapes have been covetted and cherished for years by the lucky few who have heard them ( or so they say)( my freinds) --- and now thru the miracle of modern technology you can be my friend to--- and we don't even have to meet -- in fact i'ld prefer it if we didn't --- what the hell --- i've got plenty of friemds already --- but, o.k. you can be my friend to--- to do this all you have to do is...............
Track Name: Kisses Straight From Heaven
all you have to do is listen to these songs once or twice---not for 5 seconds or whatever befor you decide it sucks--- i spent all afternoon cooking---give them a chance--- each one is better than the next --- or that last---
Track Name: And You Know...
but if you really want to be my freind you'll purchase this download and let it worm its' way into the very fabric of your life --- you won't regret it and i probably won't either--- put it on steady rotation--- tell all your friends about this cool recording you've found--- share the tip--- pass it on --- isn't this fun?--- i know i'ld enjoy it--- freindship--- it gives you a warm feeling inside--- ( legal disclaimer: i am under no obligation to acknowledge you if we should meet on the street)..................
Track Name: Woke Up this Morning
but, seriously, if you enjoy this stuff at all check back around april or so--- i'm working on the next batch right now this very minute even as we speeg.........
Track Name: Shake That Box
you might also want to check out some of the sites of some of the people i associate with--- why there's jeff curtis over there and look there's carolyn getson and tim gilbride and here comes mark keffer and i see derek (erdman) and ian ( penter) and over on the viranda it's james vaughan---they all have various thingies going on so i recomend going right to them and seeing or hearing what they're up to---
Track Name: You're Such a Knucklehead
also the painting and drawings are mine ( i'm keeping it in the family this time) and i have a flickr page where you can see more of the same--- you can get there from the title page.....................um...actually, that's the address right above this very paragragh
Track Name: Equinimical Bastard
for the benefit of those who like knowing such things--- these songs were put together for the most part on an old tascam porta 3 that my freind ian penter gave to me--- it's an old but very basic and durable thing--- it can't bounce tracks and there's no e.q.--- i used it for getting down ideas ( i don't read music) so that i could lose the tapes and forget the ideas with confidence--- and then i'ld do the proper recording on a yamaha four trk. that did bounce and did have e.q.--- in fact i had two yamaha's--- but trks began to stop working--- they won't record anything they won't play back any thing and if there's something that's already been recorded the meters say that there's nothing there--- does anyone know what's going on ? and is it a fixable thing ? i'm going to be slightly broken hearted when i switch to digital (if i ever have the money)--- i mean nothing against it but i really do like the quirks of 4trk cassette recording----------
Track Name: All Over You
so regarding other equipment i have two ( 2 ) mics--- a good one and a not as good one--- i used to have a really bad one and when you used it with the good one or the not as good one the sound was especially good--- but i lost it so i don't use it much any more--- well, that's about as technical as i'm going to get-----------
Track Name: I Have Been Waiting
so the next thing i put up will will either be something olde or something neu--- i'm leaning towards what i did in the most recent past--- it's recorded and for the most part mixed altho it might benefit from a few over dubs--- a couple of background vocals and maybe i can get mark keffer to pound the pagen skins on a few trks--- this stuff was recorded on the yamaha and at the house of some freinds who were out of town--- i had alot more quiet and privacy and more instruments and amps and like that to play with so it's a fuller sound and there's more electricity involved--- it was a nightmare to mix until finally i couldn't stand it any more and then tracks on the yamaha went south so i just gave up and started something new--- which is what this is--- so now that a little time has past i can hear it all again without prejudice and it sounds fine and almost finished---so probably next--- or it could be some songs left over from this batch--- there's 2 or three but i didn't want them with this group because it bummed things out too much--- but maybe an e.p. of accoustic misery would be fun-------
Track Name: Alonely
so that's it--- i'm heading west for the winter--- spend some time with my folks--- take my guitar--- some paper and some pens--- watch turner classics until 4 a.m.--- hibernate or incubate or whatever--- thanks to tim gilbride for helping me get the music up and thanks to james vaughan for helping me to get the images up--- i think most of the people i've mentioned can be found via cruel cruel moon except for james vaughan who can be found at jamesvaughanphoto.com--- he's got a site called x-ray delta one that i'll bet a lot of people would like--------and i hope you stop back when the snow melts--- some time in april and i hope to have some new things up--- ---------------thanks, and good luck, craig martin esq.
